Guide to Choosing a Perfect Modern Area Rug

Until you have actually seen the way a modern area rug looks in your home, it is nearly impossible to imagine how big an impact the rug will have on your interior design. A cleverly chosen area rug and be used as a striking focal point, or the rug can tie the entire room together, seamlessly blending photos, wall coverings, and furniture.

Don’t be in a rush

When buying a rug, take the time to carefully consider what rug would be perfect for your home, in what material, color, size, shape and every other aspect worth considering. Just because you have seen some rugs for sale at a store does not they are going to fit well in your home. Good quality area rugs cost a lot and are not items you can afford to buy every other week or even month. Buy an area rug that can last several years.

When choosing an area rug, consider how its color will blend with your home interior. It should complement or contrast in a flattering way, not clash with every other color in the room. If you want the rug to be the focal point, you may want to choose a bright colored rug. If you already have something else set as the focal point, then choose a toned down rug to harmonize the rest of the house.

From the moment you make the decision to buy an area rug, you should have a variety of colors that will match the rest of the dcor in your home. This should not be something you decide on when you see the rugs. Have a clue of colors that would work, based on the colors you’ve used in the house. If there are lots of browns in a room, some yellow area rugs will look splendid. If you have blues, blacks and reds, a light pink area rug will work perfectly. The key is to contrast the existing colors in a harmonizing way. If the room is defined by cool earth tones, go for a bright colored area rug. If there are more bright colors around the room, go for a dark colored area rug.

Shape

Analyze your home carefully before you go shopping for an area rug. You might find that some shapes seem to be more prevalent in individual rooms than others. When choosing an area rug, go for one whose shape will fit in with those found in the home. If the shapes that stand out in the bedroom are square while those in the living room are oval, you will have to buy square area rugs for the bedroom and oval area rugs for your living room. Thankfully, modern area rugs come in a wide range of shapes.

Use area rugs to create a warm environment in the home

Have you ever noticed that some rooms always feel cold; no matter how high the temperature is set. Area rugs are one way to fix this. A well chosen area rug can make a room that has always felt chilly, suddenly feel warm and inviting. The use of one large area rug or lots of small, brightly colored area rugs are usually the most effective when trying to add warmth to a room.

Consider wear and tear

Since you already know what room the area rug will be placed in, you should be able to predict how much wear and tear the area rug will be getting. If the rug is going to be in a room that has a lot of foot traffic, or one where pets will be frequently be sleeping on the rug, you will want to look for a rug that is both durable and easy to clean. If the rug is going in a room where it won’t be getting much abuse, you will be able to look at more delicate rugs that are harder to care for.
